Were You That Girl?

This picture for some reason reminds me of my high school.  My friends and I could often be found sitting on top of our cars in the morning sunning ourselves and finishing last minute homework.  Despite my rather angelic looking face I was a bit of a high school rebel.  I was actually kicked out of my public school at 15 and spent a year in boarding school followed by a year in private school(plaid skirts and all) only to return to my public high school for senior year, reputation as a badass solidified.

Truth is, I wasn't actually all that bad ass, I was pretty tame, never did drugs or any of that.  I was your typical school skipping, vodka drinking, heavy eyeliner wearing high school student who's hobbies included sneaking out, going to shows, ballet class and cheerleading.  I know I know, I'm a walking contradiction.

This picture got me wondering, since my own high school experience was so Kirsten Dunst movie like, who were you in high school?  Were you the goody goody?  The jock?  The loner?  The art student? Were you a rebel without a cause like me or something else?  Let me know, and let me know if the crowd you ran with in high school affected your style and whether or not it still does...

The Way We Get By- Spoon

  1. i was a nerd & wannabe hippie with the boring friends who didn't drink...i had to date a druggie before i got invited to parties. i don't think i ever snuck out even though i was tempted to sometimes. i think college influenced my style more than high school, in that college was where i really felt comfortable taking chances and having fun with what i wore.

  2. I think that my multiple high schools really influenced my style. My mom always used to joke that I was a cheerleading preppy hippie rebel.
My public high school was pretty all American but my boarding school was completely hippie, I'm talking tie dye, guitars and birks. Then of course my private school was preppy and rather upper class, I never really fit in there, but I did love the knee high socks. I was forever getting in trouble at private school for wearing converse with knee highs and my little brothers t shirts instead of my school shirt. I think my style was already pretty established by the time I hit college.

  3. Cath and I were both bunheads. We danced every night of the week and about eight hours a week. We actually left school early each day to train. It was intense- I actually don't have much of a memory of highschool and that was only (gulp) eight years ago.

  5. I was a dancing dork too. I did ballet, tap, jazz, character, hip hop and modern. Woo, that was a lot. I did ballet from age 2 till 16 and even spent some of my tender youth in the royal academy of dance in london. Eventually I faced facts, bad feet and midget height, and gave up ballet in favor of hip hop which I later went on to teach, briefly. I also did voice lessons, guitar and piano all through high school. I know, I know, how did I find time to rebel?

  6. OMG, Ace! We did the same! Ballet, character, flamenco, jazz, modern, tap... and then hiphop too! And we encountered the same problem: way too short and are legs are bowed! We danced with Joffrey when we were little and were taught by a few bunheads from ABT. We could totes swap stories ;) Glad you found time to rebel though!

  8. i was definitely very tame in high school, i didn't ever skip class or get in trouble with authority..though i kind of regret that now..gotta take those chances...but i was probably more the artist, a little weird, i took chinese and lots of art classes, and was on the fencing team..and i dressed way different than anyone in my public school. so some people liked to give me grief about it. but i liked to be different :)
