Cleanin' UpFashion Trends & Styles - Polyvore

Cleanin' Up by acelovesvintage featuring Wet Seal tops

This is basically what I wore/am wearing today. The first is for work the second is for cleaning up the new anitques I scored when I get home. My loving mother got me a gorgeous mahogany dresser that I've been lusting after. Only $30 at a local auction. It's curvy and has feet and it terribly dirty. But it will be amazing. I also picked up a new to me kitchen table yesterday. In what my mother and I have come to call the "divorce" between B and I he got our beloved 1950's yellow formica table. I got the kitten and the apartment, so I can't complain. But lord I loved that happy yellow table. Since I moved I've been searching everywhere for one and last night I hit pay dirt. I had to drive an hour and a half but she only cost me $75(way under the 300 I'd seen for some others) and she's gorgeous, I've named her Doris Day. She needs a whole lot of cleaning but I think she'll look lovely, I can't wait to have a glass of lemonade on her. Pictures as soon as she's all spiffed up!

Dorm Room Garden

So, it has occurred to me that a few of my lovely readers are heading off to college so I decided to do a small post with more or less a college theme.  This my friends is about dorm(or itty bitty apartment) gardening.  I stumbled across a post on survivingcollege.com(a great resource by the way) about gardening in your dorm.  I love to garden, granted, I'm not great at it however it is soothing, good for the soul and great for your kitchen.  Personally I have a small garden on my back porch as well as some bits here and there on my front porch.  I also keep a bunch of potted herbs and flowers in my kitchen window(which I hope have survived my absence this summer).  Gardening indoors isn't as difficult as you might think.  You have a plethora of options from a simple potted flower or a crawling vine to hang in your window.  Terrariums are also easy to take care of and quite fun to look at.  There's also this cool idea which I believe came from the good folks at Apartment Therapy, how sweet is this?  This would be perfect for someone with just a little bit of outdoor space.

Right Now I Love: Red, White and Blue

So I was inspired by my little sailor pin up girl and frankly the fourth of July is one of my favourite holidays and while I know it's over a month away, it's never too early for shopping!  I've been trolling etsy again and since I'm still poor that means I will happily share my adorable finds with you.  These little bloomers are so sweet they are actually giving me a toothache.  I'm not sure what you would wear them with but aren't they just darling?
OK, obviously I love nautical stuff.  This little tank is another one that's just too cute.  I would love it with high waisted shorts or high waisted sailor pants.  Ahoy!
Are you feeling like a patriotic glamour puss?  This vintage 70's maxi dress is just the thing then.  You can't see in the picture all that well but it's polka dotted.  And of course the halter style is just so flattering.
Oh swingy little red dress.  Be still my heart.  Need I say more?

The 4th of July is actually the gentleman friend and I's anniversary but sadly he has a rather large family reunion to go to so we won't be spending it together.  Fear not though because I will be kept company by none other than Connor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band and Jenny Lewis who are both doing a free concert in Central Park.  I intend to take my roommates, a picnic and a good deal of beer and enjoy my city.  What are your plans?

Hump Day

Wednesday morning and I'm soooo sleepy.  I've been enjoying using my gorgeous pink french coffee press in the morning though.  It's been chilly enough that I'm still enjoying a nice warm cup of coffee.  I'm clearly on a coffee blogging kick but generally I take a moment to troll my favourite blogs quick while I'm drinking my coffee(organic free trade!).  What's your morning ritual, what gets your day off to a good start?

I Can't, But You Should

So, Little Miss Kitty Bear is brokety broke.  Not going to lie.  But that doesn't stop me from trolling ebay looking at all the pretty things.  Well let me tell you there is a serious cache of cute, adorable, covet-able rompers on ebay.  Some are too big for me, some too expensive, ok all too expensive.  But that doesn't mean you can't buy them!  I've posted the pics and links to my favs so get to bidding.  And if you win, send me a pic???

I'm actually having a mini love seizure looking at this one with it's perfect peter pan color and cutsie pockets and buttons.  Also, it's so gorgeously red!  This would be too cute with sweet little heels and a parasol!  It's a size 7/8.
mmm, I love polka dots.  This has a cute forties vibe, I would love it with some big glamorous sunglasses and a belt.  It's a size 9/10.
This one looks so comfy and perfect for lounging on the beach or hanging by the pool.  It's got teeny tiny stripes and cute white bands around the legs, arms and neck.  I also love the built in belt.
I happen to think that this is too cute.  I love pin up style and think it's so fresh and feminine.  This one is a size small and would look gorgeous with wedges and cute sunglasses.
I'm actually convulsing.  Seriously, will someone just buy this for me?  It's a size xs and the buttons are actually breaking my heart.  The neckline is cutesy and playful and the straps cross and button in the back.  So cute, I'm actually dying.

P.S.  There is a weardrobe romper contest going on right now! I'm so psychic.  Get thee to bidding, you could win a $50 UO giftcard!

Garage Sale Season

Garage sale season is my favorite.  Last year I managed to get to my hometown for garage sale weekend and picked up a cute white patio set for my front porch.  I love to grab a few girlfriends in the summer and head out to the suburbs like the lovely seaside town of Ipswich and hit the beach, grab some lunch and wine and head over to a few garage sales.  This day also generally involves an impromptu picnic in a field near my favorite organic, wind powered orchard and food shop.  Garage sales are always the best place to find cool odds and ends.  When I was a kid living in England they had a weekend "boot" sale where everyone would come to a big field and sale whatever they had out of the back of their car.  It was glorious.

Dandelion

Call me crazy but I love dandelions.  I think they are the most ignored of the wild flowers.  What's so wrong with dandelions?  They're happy yellow, wildly abundant just about everywhere and they don't cost a thing(also no one cares if you pick them).  I've currently got a lovely bouquet of dandelions sitting in a tea pot on my happy yellow kitchen table and I think they look just lovely.  So don't turn your nose up at these little posies, go on, pick a bunch and enjoy.

P.S.  Wild flowers are a great way to go green!

Kitty Bear Bedroom

The Kitty Bear bedroom inspiration continues.  I love this one, it's a bit harder to achieve than the first one but its just so lush and lovely.  The curtains are actually vintage scarves clipped  together, don't they make the light look lovely.  I also love the clean floors and the cute shoes that are displayed.  The head and footboard are lovely, but also probably out of my sad little budget.  What do you guys think?

Bike Chic

Bringing out my bike is one of my favorite parts of Spring.  I'm endlessly intrigued by bike fashion as well.  I'm always impressed with women who can wear heels while riding a bike, I sadly am not one of them, but I none the less respect their dedication.  This is one of my favorite bike shots.  I think the red dress is lovely and it looks so sunny and warm out.  My new favorite part though?  I never noticed before that there is someone balancing on the end of the bike!  During the summer I balance on the back of my boyfriends bike all the time, apparently it is common practice in places like Amsterdam.  It's definitely unnerving, but also very fun.

Kitty Bear Bedroom

So today is my first official trip to Brooklyn to check out apartments. And since I shall have a new apartment  this means a new bedroom to decorate(for next to no money).  And decorating a new bedroom means new inspiration.  This one is lovely, spray paint an old bed-frame a cheery color, find a whimsical comforter with simple white sheets, a few throw pillows and some nice sheer white curtains and you're good to go.  My favourite  bit though is the collage of photos, I love this technique.  It's super simple too, a quick stop at your local thrift store and you're all done(a great way to go green by the way).  I also love the A on the wall, since my name does after-all start with A.

Go Green: Anywhere!!

House plants are such a simple and easy way to go green.  They liven up your decor and they're great for the air you breath.  Just look at this lovely overgrown kitchen, it makes the whole house feel a little more earthy.  And with so many inexpensive options, I like spider plants, you can have them all over the house.  Just a little water and some sun and they're happy as can be.  I also keep a lovely money tree around, from IKEA!  The funny thing is the day after we got it my boyfriend and I fell into almost $4,000!  Coincidence, maybe, but I prefer to think my little plant works.

Go Green: In the Kitchen

Who needs fancy matching china?  Thrifting mismatching but similar china is a chic and easy way to go green.  And doesn't this just look lovely?  I can just imagine a sweet weekend brunch out on the porch with pastel color china. They also look beautiful displayed in glass paned cabinets, if you're lucky enough to have them.  They may take a while to collect, but looking at this I certainly think it's worth it.
